Cat parts!
Last night I feel asleep to the dueling sounds of falling rain and purring cat.
No CommentsAt the advanced age of (almost) 13, Molly has learned a new trick! She figured this out all on her own: when the cat toys are corralled in their makeshift container — a Scratch Lounge that Molly has never once scratched — the toys are worth very little, in terms of entertainment. But when the cat toys are removed from the corral, well, suddenly they become a lot more fun. Yes, Molly has recently started adorably picking up her toys in her mouth and moving them onto the carpet, where playtime ensues. The other night I nearly experienced cuteness overload when Molly picked up her fuzzy ball and took it up onto the ottoman only to toss it overboard and dive down after it, savagely. Go Molly!
No CommentsMolly graciously allowed me to sleep until 6:30am today. Thank you, dear kitten!
On every other morning in recent memory, my REM sleep has been brutally interrupted by her plaintive, heartbreaking meows beginning at 5:30am. Why does she do this? Molly has become unhealthily obsessed with canned cat food, and she starts begging at 5:30 on the nose despite always having plenty of the crunchy dry stuff in her secondary food bowl.
She also has developed a habit that I call the “Lassie Move”. She jumps onto my bed and stares at me, meowing, until I open my eyes. When I give in and try to placate her she immediately turns, jumps off the bed, and runs down the hallway toward the kitchen with occasional glances backward at me. This is Molly’s “come quick, there’s an emergency!” gambit, and I think it’s amusingly Lassie-like. I don’t agree with the urgency (she’s assuredly not starving) but her tactic is disruptive enough to be effective; Molly usually gets her food by 5:35…
No CommentsWhat an exciting week for Molly, thus far!
Today, Molly went to the vet for the first time in six years! Now that she’s officially a “geriatric feline”, I thought it prudent to get her blood work done. Although the car ride was abject torture (only when a song by Phoenix came on did she stop meowing), once we got to the vet’s office she calmed right down immediately. Molly behaved so sweetly! She didn’t make a peep when she had her temperature taken, or even when she got her rabies shot. However, she weighs just 5½ lbs.; she’s the smallest kitty.
