Lately Molly has been spending a lot of time gazing at her own reflection. This is why she enjoys sitting in front of the TV stand with her nose about two inches away from its glass door. In the grey glass she can see a faint, smoky image of her head, the couch (and requisite TV-watching humans) and the window behind that. It’s Molly’s way of dealing with boredom by getting a new perspective on the world.

When Molly is bored, she meows and paces. But there are some things you can do to help. You can dig a new (old) toy out of the kitty toybox or from under the fridge. You can pick her up and take her on a tour of the apartment at human’s-eye view. You can even trim her nails. That’ll keep little Molly occupied for a bit.

Molly is currently in one of her infrequent but welcome affectionate periods. Why, just this morning, as I was waking up, she jumped up onto the bed and sat down next to me, purring. When I started to pet her she purred even louder. Then just a few minutes ago I scooped her off the kitchen floor — an action which would normally elicit angry yowls — and she settled comfortably in my arms, purring again, and let me rub her belly for a good two minutes.
