I admitted to myself that my cats need to receive a quick brushing maybe a bit more often. H made a comment the other day that spurred some thinking on the subject. She said that Molly’s fur looks like it should be softer than it actually feels. Then she pointed out a particularly rough spot on Molly’s back. I do not recall ever brushing Molly’s fur. I now concede that there is a correlation. So I have decided to brush the kitties.
Once, long ago, I bought a cat brush for Twinkie. I located that brush underneath the chair and picked it up. At that moment Twinkie was actually sitting on the chair, so I tried her out first. She likes the brushing very much. It makes her stand up, spin in circles, and rub things with her cheek. Basically, it seems that she can’t get enough of the brush. I approve.
Molly enjoyed the brush as well. It caused her to purr. Unfortunately, her problem is that she is unable to sit still; after a few moments she ran away. It is a lucky thing, then, that she has been showing signs of growing out of the impossibly-energetic phase. (For example, at times she is able to restrain herself from attacking Twinkie’s tail.) As Molly matures, I believe she will calm down considerably. It will become easier to brush her. Meanwhile, I’ll try my best.
And so the cats shall be brushed. Regularly. From now on. I promise! And their coats shall become soft all over.
